Seersucker to Participate in "Seriously Seersucker" on August 27th

South Florida-born but Tennessee-bred (at least for the past 40 some odd years now), Robert Hicks is a southern man through and through. He's written critically acclaimed and New York Times best-selling novels that unapologetically tell the stories of the old south and in October of 2014 he introduced his own small batch, Tennessee-made and -aged, hand-bottled Tennessee bourbon whiskey, Battlefield Bourbon.

We think--nay we know--we like this guy.

Which is why we're so excited to be a part of his southern-skewed event at the end of the month. Author Robert Hicks is hosting a big southern party that will leave you feeling even prouder to be a party of the Great South. Seriously Seersucker includes cocktail hour, dinner, a toast from Hicks himself, a silent auction and dancing the night away with music from a live band. Plus, all proceeds go to support O'More College of Design.

Need another excuse to buy a ticket? We'll be there! Seersucker Candy Co. will be sampling a variety of curious confections that go curiously well with cocktails: Muzzle Loaders, Rosé Gummy Bears, and Bourbon Apricot Gummy Bears. Just in case you wanted to eat your cocktails instead of drink them.

Now, what exactly is a "Seersucker Party," you ask? The wordsmith himself, Robert Hicks explains:

So what is a Seersucker Party? What beyond the obvious of pulling out your seersucker to swank around? Like New Orleans, where seersucker suits, cocktails and seersucker parties were all first invented, it’s an occasion to have fun — music, dance, food, cocktails. For some, it’s an opportunity to wear beloved seersucker one more time this season. For others, it’s an excuse to finally fill in that missing gap in your wardrobe — to be daring and Southern, no matter whence you hail. Kentucky may have invented bourbon, and Tennessee perfected whiskey, but New Orleans gave us the cocktail. The only rule is that you wear seersucker. Show us what seersucker means to you. Seriously, step up and step out. Be daring and Southern.
— Robert Hicks

Gummies, Gummies, Gummies!

The second sweet brainchild of our founder and owner Scott Witherow, the Seersucker Candy Company was created with the intention of reinventing classic Southern confections as a means of telling the story of the New South. With unique approaches to classic candies like Bourbon Balls (Seersucker’s Muzzle Loaders) and Cherry Cordials (Seersucker’s Cherry Bombs), Seersucker draws upon their southern terrior to inspire the evolution of their confections.

Now, we’re not claiming that Gummy Bears originated in or are "home to" the South, but with the South quickly becoming a place where traditional meets nouveau, we thought it would be fun (and tasty!) to put our own jazzy spin on these favorite gummy delights.

It was Scott’s 3 year-old daughter Rose who more or less came up with the idea for these jiggly, wiggly treats -- or at least, we like to give her the credit for it. When Rose asked her dad, “Daddy, can I have candy before my breakfast?” the responses from her parents were as different as night and day. Responsible mommy replied with, “No!” while candy-crazed daddy of course obliged with, “Yes!”

Scott began doling out the likes of Nerds, Fun Dip, Pop Rocks and even simple sugar cubes to his little sweetie, but then it hit him: Why don’t I make something that Rose would like? Neither bourbon-filled dark chocolate truffles nor pickled cherry cordials peaked the 3 year-old’s interest, but he had a feeling fruity-flavored, sugar-coated, bear-shaped gummies might.

Since the idea struck, the Seersucker team has hit the ground running, inventing flavors that kids will enjoy, and concocting others that strike a sound chord with adults. Lemon, grapefruit, strawberry and creamsicle are approved by all, but the “adult flavors” tend towards cocktails, with flavors like whiskey apricot, sake plum, sangria, and rosé, among others.

By reinventing the perception of the gummy from something that is traditionally children's treat into an elevated and delicious treat for people of all ages, we continue to blur the lines between the old with the new. Through all of these efforts, Seersucker brings a responsible understanding of the particular; that particular being The New South.

Gummies, in the making...

Factory Exclusive! Bourbon Lover's Collection

If you know anything about us, you know we love to try new things in the world of sweet, delectable confections.

Whether it's our all-natural sour gummies, chocolates filled with pickled cherries, or caramels spiked with salt and vinegar, we all have a lot of fun pushing the envelope in making delicious new treats.

In honor of Father's Day, we decided to pull out all the stops for Dad, making a limited collection of confections that both he and mom will love--if he's willing to share, of course.

Our Bourbon Lover's Collection is a limited edition, factory exclusive, extra-special treat that we're proud to announce is now available in store (while they last)

This small collection includes four varieties of chocolates filled with bourbon-spiked salted caramel. But here's the kicker: each of the four flavors uses a different bourbon from our personal stash of all-time favorites. This collection includes Belle Meade Sherry Cask Bourbon, Bulleit Rye Whiskey, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, and Weller Antique 107 Proof.

Since they are a factory exclusive, these beauties are only available in store! Pick them up here at the Seersucker Candy Co. store in downtown Franklin or stop by the Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Factory in East Nashville.

But don't wait! We've only made 100 boxes, so they'll surely go quickly.

Cherry Bombs Honored in Food & Wine Magazine

With our new shop coming soon to historic downtown Franklin, we’ve found ourselves working night and day to get our brick-and-mortar storefront up and running. It sure is nice to know, however, that while our faces and hands are buried in our work, people near and far are enjoying the fruits of our labor.

Specifically speaking, we are proud to announce that the fruits of our labor are being praised by Food & Wine magazine! F&W has included our Seersucker Cherry Bombs in their roundup for “Best New Candy from 2015,” and we are just delighted. We feel so honored to be included in the company of four other phenomenal brands and products, and we can only hope that this honor means good things are to come for 2016!

Thank you to F&W for allowing us to pick our heads up and take a breath of glorious fresh air, giving us the steam we need to push through to the finish line!
